Primitive Homemade Music Since 1982
Great to hear this fine new brass trio of strong improvisers with two seasoned stars yes
prominent members of Euro improv world articulate a view that hasremained ill-shapen
in the back of their minds. Naturally, a brick on the head would hurt, but when it's
coupled with the hollow sound of a temple block,it suggests that the person's head is empty.
This is at the core of the work. This magically transforms a violent act into a humorous
one, and makes it less painful. But you can bet Tony Iommi's plastic fingers (Ha Ha Ha
Ha Ha Ha ...what a riot!!!), that these boys inject some doom metal; some death metal;
a bit of black metal; Norwiegan church burning metal;just a thunderous wall of chugga
chugga kill riffs and a provoking temperment that catastrophically batters the fuck out
of all us. It will be a clobbering gig for fans and foe alike. On board will be distinguished
pocket trumpeter extrordinaire; world traveller; magical composer; and turntablist Leo
Whittman, who will be working with George Russell's Lydian Chromatic theory for the
duration and will probably pave his own way while maintaining a wonderous rapport
(Kindred spirits to be sure !!!)
Also along for the ride is Gregg Banderhorf, and what we'll have here is an all instrumental
jazz\blues rock with Toby Abrhams on drums!!!! Somewhat akin to mid period Under The
Sea when Donny Bullick blasts off those riveting leads!!!(THREE MORE REISSUES FROM
THE TNG LABEL COMING NEXT WEEK!!!) keeping options open they'll focus on different
aspects of improvisation harnessing and consciously abandoning "virtuousity".
Without a doubt the name of the game here will be "Sound Transformations" where each
set of ears constantly surveys the evolving scenerio as well as assessing how and where
musical material should be offered for transformation. I am sure of one thing though,
the enevitable complexity will make tribute to Terry Riley; Lamonte Young; AMM and the
pioneers at IRCAM. I can only imagine how this will be expanded onto
Brian Ruryk has been releasing guitar 4-track predicaments on
cassette since 1982. From time to time "best of" collections are
released on more viable formats, but the cheap, fluttering,
wowwing cassette remains his storage medium of choice.
Recorded at times with Fetcher Munson and Ed Angel, these are
positvely his newest compositions and improvisations for various
bouncing balls, debris and guitars. These meetings and events take
place in many places: balconies, under bridges, in the trunk of a
car etc. therefore there are also contributions from neighbours,
cars, animals, birds etc.
Ruryk also performs in more formal settings like clubs and bars,
lately playing cardboard boxes, ghetto blaster, and guitar.
